Simon,
Your poems are delightful - especially "Rain." I hope that adults, young people & especially your family and friends have read them, too, because you've said if "perfectly." I hope you continue writing because you're a wonderful writer.

Thank YOU,
Wendy

This article -> http://mashable.com/2010/04/25/disable-facebook-instant-personalization/
give you some idea on how to turn off the personalization features.

The biggest problem is that by simply signing up for Facebook, you already agreed to allow them to share some of your information with "third parties." That's french for "advertisers."

Thanks for explaining this. I knew they were up to something, but this makes it clear.
Can I simply turn off the sharing without deleting my account?

Agreed that Google apps is generating the most excitement, but I think for Enterprise use there are still some security concerns with it. They make migrating from Exchange very easy, but if you have a VPN or any other authentication process, it can get tricky. Plus you're now relying on a third party to manage your mail/calendar/contacts. Yes, it's Google, but gCal did go down a few days ago.

Well, we have Scalix and Zimbra, and zimbra.

But I think most people are excited about Google apps. That is the replacement for exchange. Google calendar is great, easy to share on all cell phones, and easy to use. Google mail is great as well, and you can use it with desktop software if you like, including many open source clients like thunderbird.

Microsoft has always believed (and probably correctly) that if they control the desktop, they can control the backend services including exchange.

Like it or not, Exchange is the most robust and feature rich suite available at the enterprise level. My only hope is that Apple will eventually come up with an Exchange like suite within OSX server that will allow Mac environments to share the same calendar/contact system.

It's been sorely lacking in the Mac universe and until Apple makes a sincere effort in the Enterprise market I don't see anyone else stepping in to develop a worthy option.

The problem is that Microsoft Exchange uses standard protocols o send email; but it does not have any open standards between Exchange Server and MS Outlook. Microsoft's MAPI protocol is proprietary, complex, and subject to change with every revision to Exchange (and it does change, with every revision fo Exchange..), just like every other private API in Windows.

This means that Apple has a problem creating the client themselves, that will interact with Exchange, and I do not think that they have any interest in doing it. IT in most companies is not interested in changing servers, so this leaves us where we are now, with a broken system.

It is not just iPad, iPhone, Mac OS, its also Symbian, Palm, Linux, Android and everyone else who makes a device or OS (or both). And microsoft is not making clients for any of these devices, or the client they do make (Entourage 2008) does not offer all the features people would like (for example, Business Contact Manager)

I too would love to see this resolved, make exchange more open, or stop using it.
